An Oasis of Learning and Lifelong Bonds
This painting is my homage to BITS Pilani, my alma mater and a place
that shaped me in ways only those who’ve roamed its campus can truly
grasp. Pilani, a lush green oasis amidst Rajasthan’s dusty terrain, is
inseparable from BITS—and BITS from Pilani. Nestled over 220 km
from Delhi’s hustle, the campus fostered a tight-knit, self-sufficient
community where students ran the show, learning camaraderie,
resilience, and yes, even some creativity along the way.
In this piece, you’ll find a map of the campus dotted with iconic
landmarks: academic buildings, hostels with shared mess halls, staff
quarters, and that distinctive yellowish-white architecture we all
recognize. I couldn’t leave out the Indian peafowl—our unofficial
mascot—strutting around campus as if they owned the place. There’s
also the timeless clock tower, the serene Birla Mandir, the BITS logo
brimming with campus lingo (even I was surprised by how much I
squeezed in), and the infamous hostel mess thali, which we all had a
love-hate relationship with. And, of course, our very own Connaught
Place, the cluster of shops and eateries that offered a welcome break
from hostel fare.
Scattered throughout are nostalgic touches like the Pilani elevation
sign from the gliding club and the beloved blue-redi carts near the
Bhavans. While new buildings have sprouted up over the years, the
spirit of BITS Pilani—a dynamic blend of innovation, self-reliance, and
lifelong friendships—remains unchanged.
