The painting portrays the essence of Box Hill, Victoria. Stepping here feels akin to wandering through the bustling restaurant laneways and malls of Shanghai or Singapore - It does not get more authentic in terms of the sights, flavours, or aromas of Asian cuisine. Equally fascinating is how other heritage icons have been preserved including the rows of Californian Bungalows, the old Art Deco Swimming Pool building, abandoned Box Hill Brickworks, Surrey Park Model Boat Club and the Box Hill Cemetery. Lastly the skyscrapers and cranes remind us how the city is racing towards establishing itself as a second CBD for Melbourne.
